EP 2: What to do when she finds THE ring, and all eyes are on you!

Let's talk about how she could tell you what kind of ring she wants without actually coming out and saying it. You've talked about getting married, which normally progresses into that time where you say, “So let's talk about rings,” and “what do you like?”

In essence, what you're doing there when you ask that question is you're throwing her the ball and you're putting her in charge. And that's totally cool. She wants to be in charge at this point. It makes sense because you just want to make sure you're giving her a ring that she loves.

As you start talking about rings, your minds start to form a picture in your head of the proposal, and getting down on one knee and opening the box and BOOM, she loves what's inside and cannot wait to post it on Instagram. That is one of your goals. I know it's one of the primary goals next to getting a ring in budget.

A lot of people go out together to look at rings, and again, it makes a whole lot of sense. Guys approach this in so many different ways. I mean, maybe you're a strategist and like you're a notebook guy and you have spreadsheets and you read a bunch of stuff.

Totally fine. No worries. Maybe it's like a couple's thing. You go out to enjoy the day, look at some rings, maybe round it out with a couple of cocktails or some sushi or what have you. Or maybe you flat out ask and say something like, “Show me what you want so I can get it for you.” (Which is also fine.)

It doesn't matter how you approach it, but there is a moment that is most likely going to happen that you need to be ready for and thankful for. It’s magic. So what is the magic moment I'm talking about? It's “the look.”

She is going to give you “the look,” and here's how it's going to go down. (Remember, she still has the ball when you enter the store.)

She'll be trying on rings and hopefully you’re having a good time. (You're going to think they all look the same, but they're really not.)

She'll be sorting through, whittling down and suddenly she’ll try one on and she might not say anything, but she'll give you “the look.” And we all know what the look is. It means different things in different situations, but in this one, she's telling you, “I found my ring!”

Boom! She just passed the ball back to you, and it is game over.

In most cases, this is the goal of your trip to the jewelry store at this point in your journey. It's just to kind of find out what kind of ring she wants. Got it? It's very simple. “The look” is so powerful. So watch for it. And if you see it, trust it. It is a gift. Take it and run.
